Long live democracy

 

                I know that those who get to know me think that I’m a pessimist, and for due reason, because of my strong sarcasm. I am always going to joke or mention things that can go wrong, ultimately to laugh and joke. However, I do tend to look on the bright side. I’m an optimist at heart, whether or not I want you to see that.
                I’ve been optimistic that the United States is a democracy. I’ve heard enough to say that it is not. It’s a republic. The difference is so slight that most of us really don’t know. At this point what does it matter? The president is so hell bent on ignoring the constitution and instilling his own laws that we might as well not have a government. He has ensured that everyone that surrounds him is loyal to him and him alone. The U.S. comes second or maybe even third when it comes to this president.
                How am I supposed to feel, knowing that the current President doesn’t care about anyone other than himself? How am I supposed to feel given that we are in the midst of a health crisis, and the President tried to restrict coverage for those with existing conditions? This President who chose to tell Americans that the pandemic will just disappear while simultaneously taking action to avoid people with the common cold. Am I supposed to believe that in the 21^st century that Darwinism is the key to life on earth?

                Covid is a mere matter of survival of the fittest? Color of one’s skin is a matter of survival of the fittest? One’s wealth means that you deserve to live other others? You’re not allowed to vote because you are afraid that a PANDEMIC might kill you? Are you a real estate baron? No? well then you can’t vote. Am I the only one who sees this? Am I the only one who is pissed off that someone who couldn’t give a shit about you is trying to tell you how to live?
                As I said, though I might not show it, I’m an optimist. I believe that we can get through this dark time in our history. We will learn a lot from the ignorant people in our midst. Germany did so, why can’t we do the same? I believe we will get through the disaster that Trump is presenting us with. Americans will prove in the end that we believe in democracy. We will survive the fascist, totalitarian regime, and get back to Democracy.
                I love this country, I like to say that I’m from here. However, at current, we are the laughing stock of the world. We have a leader who equates closer to Hitler than to FDR. We need to take back this county. We need to admit racial prejudice, no matter where it comes from. We need to recognize that our entire economy depends on foreign governments. We need to recognize that (right or left) we live in this country and we depend on each other. There is no United States without being united.
