Incomplete thoughts, but hey its 2021
There
is so much about human nature that baffles me, some of the biggest is the indifference
towards others. No one needs to know relationship status of others despite what
E! thinks, but that isn’t what I mean. In America we seem to live in bubbles,
there is this sense that our actions won’t affect anyone else. This is evident
in how almost all of us drive, we have a me first attitude where we’ll cut
someone off or tailgate in an effort to make someone go faster.
The point is that we don’t
put enough effort into how our actions can affect those around us. Some may not
care, others do. Some people will feel bad about traffic indiscretions,
thinking it was an accident or a mental lapse. Others feel that its their right
to drive like an idiot.
I bring
this up to highlight the hemming and hawing about wearing a mask. It is
ultimately the same. If you legitimately care about those around you, you are
going to wear a mask. If you are the type of person who doesn’t care about the
near accidents, you will refuse. There is a big difference between those who
think about others and those who think only about themselves.
I personally can’t imagine what it is like to
think only about myself, to not consider different medical situations. To think
that fatal disease will only reach me if I think it’s real. To ignore that it’s
a problem worldwide, and that it has an effect on the global economy.
How
insane do you need to be in order to believe that protecting those around you
is a constitutional question? How insane do you need to be to claim that taking
measures to protect your neighbors is wrong? Why is listening to scientists a
bad thing? Why is it that upholding the golden rule means ignoring how people
wish to be treated? Why are people persecuted because they have a science degree?
I don’t
understand why America is so anti-science and anti-fact. Are we afraid of the
truth? Are we no longer the ideal democracy? Can we not deal with the fact that
we aren’t the ideal? So many countries are leading us in obvious categories
like health care, vacation times, and ultimately happiness.
Our
response, we need more guns, we need less pay, we need less vacation, we need
more gofundme’s.
This is supposed to be the
richest country in the world, why is it that our best healthcare is gofundme?
Why are our employees burnt out? Why are women afraid of having children? Oh
right, because our entire philosophy is built on the assumption that the rich
will find ways to spread their wealth to those below them.
Again, how
insane do you need to be in order to believe that? The rich are going to spend
money on useless shit, but that is almost assuredly going to be a one time
payment. The poor might spend money on useless shit, but the useless shit
differs. The rich will buy a yacht, the poor will buy a dinner. Who benefits
from those orders is huge. The people who build the yacht might see something
that year, but the people who are involved in that dinner will likely see an
increase yearly.
