True colors
It has been a day, and there has been much to digest. Two of the three Trump Justices clearly and obviously perjured themselves, while another Justice should be disqualified as his wife fought to destroy democracy. 4 of the 5 Justices who deemed that women are less important than men were nominated by Presidents who lost the popular vote, while the other clearly encouraged his wife in traitorous activity. Democrats have had decades to do the right thing and pass a common-sense law. Even the absolute fact that thousands of women will die from this moronic ruling hasn’t stirred Democrats into removing a Senate rule that was instituted for the primary purpose of preventing civil rights.
Democracy
was already tenuous in this country; one party had already moved firmly into
authoritarian prerogatives. It has been proven that when abortion rights are
taken away that is the biggest sign that democracy is already a target.
We all
knew this was coming, this has been the plan of the GOP for decades. They gave
up on governance and knew that they only way their backwards ideologies would
ever work was if they could legislate from the bench. This was McConnell’s
dream. His policies had the agreement of 40% of the population at best, this
SCOTUS decision has 33% at best. This isn’t about what the PEOPLE want, it’s
about what the party wants.
This
decision sets us up to remove everything we hold dear. That people can marry
who they want, that we’re free to express ourselves. If it holds true, an
incredible amount is set to change in this country, and it will all be for the
worse.
I want
to be angry, it’s absolutely insane, but I find that I’m kind of just numb.
This was the ultimate goal for so long by a vast minority of people. The amount
of suffering that is going to come from this decision, and the in-action before
it, is going to be huge.
We
cannot pin the damage that was done on any one group, it has been collective.
One side has had the power multiple times to prevent this tragedy from ever occurring.
While the other has been planning this since the original Roe v Wade decision.
This was an inevitability, no group was ever willing to take this on and do
what was necessary to save lives, to prevent servitude and to allow our women
to be free. No one. We did this to ourselves. The sad thing is, that with all
the outrage and the recognition today, nothing is going to change.
Go home United States you’re
drunk.
